“I see the world in color,” Nashid explains, his voice brimming with passion. “I see it the way I did as a kid, and being an artist that specializes in color, I think it’s important to acknowledge this growth as a human.” His words ring true, reflecting a deep introspection and a profound connection to his craft.
But Nashid’s path to artistic expression hasn’t always been easy. As a young adult, he grappled with the challenges of moving between continents, struggling to forge meaningful connections in an ever-changing world. It was art that became his solace, his sanctuary amidst the chaos of life.
“All of these different moves just did not help me,” Nashid reflects. “In my young, adult life, I had to struggle with an inability to make close relationships. Just could never had the opportunity to develop those as a kid, and that was hard, and I feel like I finally overcome that. Art definitely was what kept me happy, so I was always drawing.”
Through his art, Nashid found a sense of purpose and identity, a way to express himself in a world that often felt overwhelming. And it’s his passion for pop art that truly sets his work apart. “There’s some stigma with pop art,” he admits. “Some people don’t see it as real art because you’re painting celebrities, but I had to introspect and realize, you know what? People can have their opinions, but if this is what inspires me, I’m going to make the best art.”
Indeed, Nashid’s art is a reflection of his own journey—a celebration of the people and moments that have shaped him into the artist he is today. From iconic musicians like The Weeknd to cultural icons like Kurt Cobain, each painting tells a story, a snapshot of a moment frozen in time.
But it’s not just about capturing the likeness of his subjects; it’s about connecting with them on a deeper level. “If I’m painting somebody that I don’t necessarily have a connection with…my process is really to watch a lot of interviews, watch documentaries, watch music videos, and get a feeling for who he is as a person,” Nashid explains. “It’s a sense of empathy with the person I’m painting.”
And as he continues to evolve as an artist, Nashid finds himself drawn to new challenges and inspirations. “There’s reason to [connect with them], because they are embedded in our culture,” he says.
